I am extremely happy to announce the first Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu Seminar in the UK with Iwami Toshio soke, the 11th Headmaster of the ryu. The Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu is primarily a kenjutsu school, with a number of other weapons studied at the higher levels such as bo, jutte and aikuchi.
Although many people have sampled the techniques of the school through other teachers, the practice within the ryu is very different and anyone who is interested in furthering their study of the art should take this opportunity to practice with the head of the ryu during this rare European visit. This seminar has ben organised to help us to raise the level of Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu kenjutsu in the UK.
Spaces will be limited so please book your place as soon as you can.
In 1979, Iwami Toshio enters the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu dojo of Imai-soke, thanks to the recommendation of Miyamoto Nobuo, the 13th generation descendant of Miyamoto Iori, son of Miyamoto Musashi.
In 2001, Iwami-soke is given Menkyo Kaiden (certificate of full transmission of teachings) by Imai-soke. This is the highest level of ability in the ryu, and confers that all teachings have been passed to him.
In 2003, he is named by Imai-soke as 11th headmaster of Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu.
Today, he works tirelessly to improve his understanding of the swordsmanship of Miyamoto Musashi and to the development of his students, both at hombu in Kokura, Kyushu and those abroad who practice Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu.
Location
The seminar will be held at the University of Wolverhampton (Walsall campus), within easy reach of the M6 motorway, Walsall train station and two major airports.
